Garbage disposals are a convienent way to dispose food in a proper way, without that lingering smell. Sometimes things may drop in there (like metal items) and puts a little wear on your disposal. Here are some ways to keep your disposal running longer!

Do's:

Keep it clean- Pour a little dishwasher soap in the drain and let it run for a bit. This helps clean it.

Use cold Water- When disposing food, always use cold water, that way if any grease or oils build up, the cold will solidify it and make it easier for the waste to get disposed.

Little amounts- The disposer works best when you put little amounts at a time.

Don'ts:

Biodegradable waste only- Only use food products that can break down easily. putting solid items can damage the motor and the blades.

Using Hot water- Hot water liquefies grease which results in clogs.

Fibrous Foods- Foods like corn husks, celery, onion skins can cause the disposer to jam.

Coffee Grounds- Coffee grounds can also jam up your drains.

With these quick tips, you can save your disposal years of unwanted damage!
